Q Hao Hostel: An Ultimate Place To Stay At An Ultimate Destination In Vietnam

We would like to thank Ms Neha Kant for this review of Q Hao hostel located at Long Beach in Phu Quoc . She stayed here in the month of March 2017 with her husband while touring vivacious Vietnam! This review also marks our fascination with this country this month....stay hooked!

Q Hao Hostel, Phu Quoc

If you want to get the vibe of a place and make some new friends, hostels are the best bet. This thought led us to book a stay at Q Hao hostel in Phu Quoc while we were on a trip to Vietnam. Now we had seen pictures of this place, read reviews and talked to some friends who had stayed here yet when we reached Q Hao we were quite impressed by what we saw. We instantly knew what made Q Hao the most popular hostel in this part of the world. It is not only backpackers who throng this place and continue to live here for months but also couples and people who usually don't stay in hostels but just want to try out the experience. Right from the ambiance, the décor to comfort, Q Hao is a "Hotel Hostel" that ticks all the boxes!

The View at the Top

Q Hao Hostel Phu Quoc

There are a number of things that are enchanting about Q Hao. The Asian construction with plenty of ornate wood work gives this hostel a very sophisticated and neat look. Striking red Chinese lamps against the warm color of wood and stark white walls combine the contemporary with modern sensibilities. Despite the rush of people, Q Hao is super clean and a lot of effort goes into keeping it that way and management does it quite successfully. The common areas are lush with activities one can indulge in- Foosball, pool tables, board games and Jacuzzi. The rooftop bar and restaurants are added attractions if you just want to chill within the four walls of the hostel!

See that, at the end of the alley? That is one of the reasons Q Hao is so damn popular...that is the roof top bar. But what is special is that the hostel offers free beer to its patrons every day from 5 to 5.30 in the evening! The bar overlooks the beach and one can witness the wonderful sunset right from the comfort of the hostel's rooftop bar. A chilled glass of beer is what you need after a day of gallivanting around Phu Quoc!

While we are talking drinking, let us tell you one more interesting fact about Q Hao, they organize pub crawl every Saturday for USD 10-11. During this pub crawl, they take guests to four well known pubs around Phu Quoc and offer a free drink at each of these stops! The pubs covered in this trail are Q Sky bar, House Number 1, Rabbit Hole and Sunset Bar. Q Sky bar is amongst the top bars here in Phu Quoc and Rabbit hole has an Irish Set up. We personally found Sunset Bar to be the best for its casual and super lively atmosphere!

By the end of the pub crawl you would have your hands full with T-shirts, caps and souvenirs that are handed over to the pub hoppers absolutely free. Now that is what we call....making it extra special!

Get a Room!

Room at Q Hao Hostel

Now we have not really come across such rooms in any hostel ever! They are tastefully done and even their bunk bed in dorms are quite classy. There is storage under the bed which doubles up as locker. They have curtains around the bed which ensures some privacy while you get your share of shut eye. It is all in the shade of dark wood which adds so much sophistication to the entire place. Keeping up with their commitment to cleanliness, the bathrooms in hostel are really clean even though they are not en suite and with hot water available at all times the day. Rooms are air conditioned which is something you don't see often in hostels. For guests in private rooms, slippers and toothbrush kit is also provided which is also a unique feature we saw only here and quite unlike hostels. Beds are comfortable and come with a nice duvet for a good night sleep.

The Eats and Sundries

Q Hao Hostel, Ohu Quoc

Food is quite average here and it is recommended that you go outside to explore the bustling food scene of Vietnam. The only downside we found to Q Hao is that it is located quite far from City Center yet the distance is quite manageable. You can rent bikes at the reception and the staff is really helpful with your needs and requests. They also offer pickup and drop from airport and book tours if requested. In short, Q Hao is a great experience and a wonderful place to stay in Phu Quoc.
